Experience

- Experience selling produce at a farm with 150 CSA members, 2 successful farmers’ markets, sales to 4 health food stores and Farmlink in Grand Rapids.

We have multiple positions available for farm-workers who are able to work in a fast-paced, demanding work environment. Duties performed on a daily basis include: greenhouse propagation, transplanting by hand, cultivation with hand tools, harvesting, washing/packing, delivery and sale of produce. Wage will start at 9.25/hr with raises given based on skill level and performance.
Farming is physically demanding! We are a small-scale (5 acre production size) vegetable farm. Physical labor is a daily aspect of working at Groundswell.

Primary duties:
- Perform all tasks on a daily basis to include: greenhouse propagation, transplanting by hand, cultivation with hand tools, harvesting, washing/packing, delivery and sale of produce
- Distribute produce to various markets with pick-up trucks or box trucks
- Sell produce and represent Groundswell at our Grand Rapids Fulton Street Market or at the Holland Farmers’ Market

Greenhouse Manager
We are seeking a greenhouse manager for 2018!
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1 year of organic farm greenhouse management, or 2 years organic farm experience
- Must be comfortable with Microsoft spreadsheets
- Ability to work in an unsupervised environment
- Ability to manage greenhouse plans, seeding, and transplant management
- Understand the basics of greenhouse propagation management
- Hard-working, responsible, detail-oriented personality
- Must possess knowledge of general plant biology
- Must be willing to work weekends (Saturday Market 530am – 3pm)
- Must be willing to work odd hours and make trips back to farm during propagation season (farm will reimburse at .50c/ mile)
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
Primary duties:
- Manage all aspects of the greenhouse including seeding, transplant management, heating and venting, and seed orders.
- Monitor temperatures and weather at all times and be prepared to make a trip to the farm occasionally to open/close (24hr/day during season) to ensure plants do not die.
- Communicate with farm manager and field manager
- Manage a team 1-2 employees during peak seeding season
- Ensure seed levels remain stocked to last throughout season
- Monitor signs of disease and pests in propagation house
- Multi-tasking is required. Greenhouse manager is not your primary job. You will perform all other duties on the farm and manage the greenhouse

Field Manager
We are seeking a field manager for our farm for 2018! The field manager is the highest paid employee on the farm, but also requires the most skill and work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1 year of organic farm management, or at least 2 years organic farm experience
- Must be comfortable with Microsoft
- Ability to work in an unsupervised environment
- Ability to manage field plans, seeding, cultivation for 5 acres
- Strong leadership/inter-personal skills
- Hard-working, detail-oriented personality
- Must possess knowledge of general plant biology
- Must be willing to work weekends (Saturdays 5am – 3pm)
Primary duties:
- Serve as the assistant-to the farm manager
- Manage the field schedule, transplanting and direct seeding on the farm
- Manage a team of 3-5 individuals during field tasks
- Manage the cultivation of all field crops. The field manager will be trained to operate the Allis Chalmers G and Allis Chalmers 42hp 5050
- Maintain an irrigation plan and schedule for all field crops
- Manage pests and disease and cover crop rotation
